- Describe la necesidad o problema que deseas abordar
- Employment, Parenting and Domestic Violence will be addressed. Employment: The lack of job opportunities in low-income communities make parents look elsewhere for jobs and causes separation from their families. Offering courses to mothers so they can strengthen the economy of their homes will help generate jobs in their localities. Domestic violence: Many women in vulnerable communities suffer from domestic violence, which includes physical, sexual or emotional abuse, which is why we must support and motivate them to make decisions that impact their family future. Parenting: Through the courses we will connected with them to know their limitations in the family environment and teach them parenting skills. The mother plays a very important role in the family nucleus. The education and treatment offered to a child will be reflected in the following generations and that is why we must break the chains inherited from abuse and family violence. Belize faces a problem of young people without values that are easily recruited by gangs, invited to the abuse of alcohol and drugs and other situations that embitter them and end up destroying their future and creating social unrest. Creating successful individuals will be a key to the future of our society and that is why we must focus on parenting. Children learn by example, therefore, teaching children values, implies a personal commitment. It is essential to set an example with acts and words, so that children can assimilate, imitate and live them. Quoting in this way, the teaching of values begins at home, promoted by the being and doing of parents and other adults significant to the child.
- ¿Cuál es el principal producto o servicio que ofrecerás?
- These courses will start as workshops to produce local souvenirs and art pieces . The courses will includes how to get materials for the arts and crafts pieces and later will focus on finding the market for their final products. Accompanying the main service of giving these courses, there will be a social program that will impact their personal and family life, as well as the right parenting education for their children.
- Describe brevemente la comunidad o población que se beneficiará de tu solución y de cómo planeas involucrarlos en el proyecto
- Single women and mothers will benefit in vulnerable communities. We may undertake a specific study of the vulnerable communities in Belize to select the locations. We will thoroughly recruit women with the potential to have a better future; that are in extreme poverty, that have had limitations of education and parenting skills and that are in situations immersed in abuse and domestic violence. Through the courses we can have a close connection with each woman to understand their family and social environment, and thus, be able to offer working skills, motivational classes, parenting skills, as well as counseling, and in specific cases direct the situation or ask for the direct support of the corresponding institutions. This model is not only limited to single women, it can be adapted to another age group and/or gender in vulnerable conditions, which would require its own structure and support.
- ¿Tiene tu propuesta un modelo de negocio (es decir, una estrategia para generar ingresos)? Por favor describe
- The target communities will be carefully chosen. The courses will be finance structured and designed to be given to each of the target communities. A thorough study will be done of the limitations and strengths that the groups face in their location, as well as the economic situation of the group as it relates to having access to get the resources needed. I will try to get support from government and the private sector to sponsor some students. The course price for students will be calculated from expenses such as: transportation, assistants, trainers, materials, etc. The revenue will be received from the cost of the courses and the supply of materials for the courses, and additional profits will come from the continual supplying. The courses and the supply of materials will also be open to the general public. Belize lacks Souvenir Training Schools and a Material Supply Store. In this way this business model can also obtain external income. The courses can last from 1, 3, or 6 months. The team is open to travel and visit certain communities for 2 or 3 days per week until the course is completed in the experimental part of the project. We can also bring the group participants to Belmopan. In approximately one year, a minimum of 3 courses and a maximum of 5 could be completed. In the first year our services and products will be established and positioned in the market, in the second year the school may generate profits. Once the business has enough capital it can be expanded to create a direct Souvenir Store for tourists to buy the products that the students make. The cost of the courses can be from $20US up to $300US dollar per person depending on the course, the target, the cost of transportation, materials, equipment, trainers and assistant pay. (The trainers could be one of the staff of Next Pixel together with a social worker assigned from the Social Work Department & Health Ministry) If it applies. The courses will be planned strategically and priority will be given to where local materials can be used. Some of the courses for example are (Art pieces made of Coconut derivatives, handmade jewelry, designs on t-shirts, designs on mugs, invitation cards, resin art pieces, wood pieces, lamps etc.)
